The call came in around 10 p.m., Wednesday, May 22, of a man lying on the sidewalk at the intersection of Cove and Frederick streets, said Stamford Police Capt. Richard Conklin.

Police and EMS immediately offered aid and the man was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, Conklin said.

According to Conklin, the man, a Hispanic male in his 50s, had been stabbed multiple times at 107 Fredrick Street and then ran outside and down the street where he collapsed.

Police said their investigation was hampered by a language barrier with all residents of the housing unit, and with a "high level of intoxication," Conklin added.

Detectives have not been able to identify the man due to a lack of "credible" documents, he said.

The Stamford Fire Department was also called to the area to wash down the sidewalk due to the heavy amount of blood, Conklin said.

Currently, a person of interest in the case is being held on two outstanding warrants and is being questioned.
